The second causeway connects Singapore with the Legends Golf & Country Club in Johor in under 40 minutes. All golfers in Johor were supposed to have access to three championship courses, one by Jack Nicklaus, one by Arnold Palmer, and one by Gary Player.
In June 1997, the par-72, 6,710-meter, 18-hole Jack Nicklaus championship course was fully available for play. In 1998-2001, it was rated as Johor’s top golf course 3 times. In 2002, Asian Golf Monthly ranked this championship course as one of the best three golf courses in Asia. The layout, which occupies rather wide territory, is robustly constructed with numerous elevation changes and extensive bunkering.
Each hold has its own personality obstacles, and views of the nearby palm oil plantation. Many of the plunge drives from the back tees are particularly thrilling; the holds curve around lakes, over ridges, or move in the direction of distant ledges that drop down into danger.
The par5 sixth hold, which is the trademark hole, has two paths to the green and is played from an elevated tee. It is possible to lay up and pitch on in three. The riskier “on in two” strategy and carry over water tempt better golfers.
The back nine provide a far more challenging and beautiful test of golf. From the par-4 11th through the par-4 17th, water poses a hazard to every tee shot. Many of these holes rank among Malaysia’s most difficult yet breathtakingly gorgeous challenges. From elevated tees, one can see beguiling collection of tropical trees and floral bushes as well as an eclectic mix of little lakes. Monkeys who live on the back nine might use the opportunity to watch your progress, especially at the lengthy par-5 16th
The magnificent 9-hole, 3,326-meter Arnold Palmer course is of the greatest international calibre and complements the already existing Jack Niklaus Course. It provides the ideal balance of beautiful tropical scenery and a demanding game for golfers of all skill levels.
The Legends is a master planned resort offering a complete range of sporting, leisure, entertainment, and resort facilities. The clubhouse is large and well-appointed. However, the on-site resort is probably best left to locals who want to get away for an overnight weekend round.
